LCK Player Statistic Analysis

Is KDA the Most Important?

The Kill/Death/Assist (KDA) ratio is often the first statistic fans look at to judge a player's performance. Our data shows a strong correlation between high KDA and high win rates.

  • The top four players by KDA—Ruler (8.33), Chovy (7.33), Duro (6.44), and Canyon (6.35)—all share an identical, dominant win rate of 87.80%.
  • This matching win rate occurs as they are all on the same team. While their individual skill is shown in the other sections, their KDAs are significantly higher most likely because of good team synergy. A winning team naturally creates more opportunities for kills and assists while minimizing deaths.
  • On the other hand, a player like Aiming has a very high KDA of 6.32 (5th overall) but has a win rate of only 51.02%. This data might suggest he is a great player, however, his team is not able to match his pace resulting in high stat lines but losing.

Conclusion: KDA is a strong indicator on individual talent, however, it can be affected by the team as well as the role they play.

Performance by Role

Bot Laners (ADC)

ADCs are the primary damage dealers As expected, they consistently rank high in CS, Gold, and Damage. Players like Ruler, Viper, and Gumayusi are examples of this, all averaging over 300 CS and 23k damage per game. In most games, the bottom lane plays passively and aims to farm to gain experience and the gold for items.

Mid Laners

Mid laners are another major source of damage and often have a significant impact across the map. Chovy, Zeka, and Faker have high KDAs simillar to ADCs. However, their kill participation is slightly higher with more assists.

Supports

Support stats look vastly different. Their value isn't in farming or kills, but in vision control and assists. Duro and Keria lead the league in assists per game (12.95 and 11.29, respectively). Low CS and gold is a regular occurence, as Supports focus on getting their ADC in a position to win.

Junglers

Junglers are a jack of all trades. Their stats are a mix of farming as well as fighting. Canyon and Oner are examples of this, balancing kills, assists, and farming jungle camps (reflected in their moderate CS scores). Junglers have high KDAs due to the roaming nature of the role.

Top Laners

Top laners are isolated on their own "island". This makes analyzing data for top laners quite inconsistent. Their performance can be harder to see with just stats, as a top laners job is to divert attention from objectives or taking objectives, rather than dealing damage and securing kills. Kiin, a strong top-laner, showcases excellent all-around stats, while players like Zeus and Doran have higher KDAs and less CS as their playstyle participates more in teamfights.

Key Takeaways

  • Team Success Inflates Individual Stats: The better the team, the higher the stats in most situations. When looking for strong individual players to possibly learn from, look for outliers where win rate and KDA don't really match.
  • Gold Wins Games: For damage-dealing roles (Bot, Mid), CS/gold are directly related to a players damage output. Knowing how to farm is a must.
